Jeremy Wright on the iPhone; consumers win in the long run

Jeremy Wright has a mouthful to say about the iPhone. I do agree with all of his points, which is why I’m partly glad that the iPhone isn’t being released in Asia just yet. I mean, at least I am not putting myself in the occassion of sin to buy one. Oh the gadget lust. It’s just too tempting.

This is effectively the most expensive phone ever created for the mass market (including AT&T’s plans), and it’s not even a very good phone! You have people trading in phones with better connectivity, better network, better audio, better cameras, more storage, better MP3 players… Just to grab this piece of history.

I like looking at the iPhone from an industry perspective. Now that everyone’s got their hands on one, they’ve seen all the sides from flaw to praise. The browser, the form factor, the battery life are all-a-praise and this is something that can easily be copied to create an even better device later on.

Apple did a good job on the iPhone as they were able to revolutionize the mobile industry with some new perks on what really makes a phone work WELL. But then they fell short of adding features that really matter such as better shortcut keys, more enterprise connectivity and a better telco partner.
