The Nokia Music Store

nokia-music-store.jpg

Apple has their iTunes Store. Nokia has their Music Store. Using Microsoft DRM for their copy protection via Windows Media Player, Nokia phone owners can now buy songs over the Internet. Here are some features of the new Nokia Music Store:

  • songs in WMA format at 192 kbps

  • buy songs either OTA from your mobile phone or via your computer

  • using Ovi, you can choose tag or bookmark favorite songs via mobile and download them later from your computer to save data costs

  • transfer songs to and from your computer and mobile phone (I am still not aware of the extent the Microsoft DRM works in this case — would songs downloaded via the Music Store be compatible with the Microsoft Zune then?)

  • individual songs will cost 1 Euro and albums will cost 10 Euros

  • unlimited streaming of tracks over the Internet

  • Nokia PC Client includes the conduit allowing you to rip CDs to your computer as well as directly to your mobile phone

  • full synchronization between the Music Store account, your desktop PC and your Nokia mobile phone (I am not sure if the client will be Mac OS X compatible)

The Nokia Music Store will be available to the public this coming fourth quarter of 2007.
